THANK YOU, for trusting me with the fun “job” of helping make your reception a GREAT EVENT!!
As I stress, not ALL events, dances or “traditions” below have to take place within the reception, and, ALL music is geared toward’s YOUR specific suggestions, requests, “must haves” and must NOT haves! :-)
Your Wedding Reception is one of the most important days of your life... and yet it seems, because of all of your obligations, that little thought is given to the reception past the initial booking of the hall and dinner/bar arrangements!
I work hard with you, any coordinators, photographers, videographers, caterers and anyone else involved to ease your mind and let you know you are in great hands on your special day!
The energy and sharing that happen at the reception are what your guests will remember the most, and with just a little planning ahead of time, the celebration can go much more smoothly.
To that end I have designed this easy guide to get everyone on the same page of the reception flow.
Please note: Not every wedding has every event... we can pick and choose from the following common reception events and determine which events you would like as a part of your special day.
Things to think about: :-) (And then a Handy Fill-in Sheet Below)
Mixing Music:What shall we play while the bride and groom are getting pictures taken and the guests start to arrive? Grand Introduction Into The Hall:Shall I introduce The Entire Wedding Party? Parents? Grandparents? The officiant? (You will need to provide a list with all the names of all the people that will be introduced...as well as determine the order in which they will be introduced. I will make sure to get the people lined up in the right order when they are getting ready to be introduced, according to your guidelines. Include the relationship of each person where applicable... (eg:John Smith, Cousin of the Bride, escorting Jane Doe, Friend of the Bride) Listed below is a typical order of introductions.. make sure to provide help on hard-to-pronounce names! Ringbearer & Flower Girl Grandparents of The Bride Grandparents of The Groom Parents of The Bride Parents of The Groom Bridesmaids and GroomsmenMaid (Matron) Of Honor And Best Man And, last, but definitely not least :-)The Bride And Groom (Let me know exactly how you want to be introduced as husband and wife,E.g “Mr & Mrs. John Doe”, “Mr & Mrs John and Jane Doe”, etc)
First Dance As Husband And Wife:Will we go right into the first dance after your entrance? (I generally suggest this, as everyone is focussed on you at this point, AND it lets you bask in that initial attention, AND get the dance out of the way so you can relax a bit!)
While I have you thinking about your first dance, there are a couple other dances that you may, or may not, want. Formal dances and other big events everyone wants to photograph...You will need to select the songs for: • Father/Daughter dance• Mother/Son dance• Bridal party dance•
Toasts:You need the name(s) of people who will be giving a toast to thebride and groom. (traditionally the best man, maid/matron of honor, and a parent(s) gives some sort of toast, but it can be anyone youchoose)
Blessing/grace:if applicable, provide the name of the officiant giving the blessingor grace over dinner:
Dinner:Is it it being served buffet-style or sit-down? Shall I announce tables or shall the wait staff? What kind of music would you like to hear during dinner?
Cake Cutting:Select a fun song to play during the cake cutting. Mack the Knife has often been used,as has Chapel of Love, or even “Cut The Cake” by the Average White Band.
Bouquet Toss: Is there music that you wish played during the bouquet toss?
Garter Toss: Is there any special music that you wish played during the garterremoval and toss?
Garter & Bouquet-Catcher Moment: If you have it at all, you can either do the traditional female seated, male places garter on, OR, you can just have them dance with each other.
Generations Dance: (this is where all the married couples attending your weddingare invited to the dance floor. Each couple is then excused from the dance floor basedon the length of time that they have been married... the last couple on the floor willhave been married the longest.)
Dollar Dance: The best man and maid (matron) of honor collect money for adance with either the bride or groom.
Last Dance:While at many modern day receptions guests seem to begin to filter out rather rapidly,it is still a good idea to select a last dance. A formal dance, even if no one is there butthe couple and a few friends, is a nice way to provide closure, and a moment's of togetherness, as aromantic end to your big day.
Questionable RequestsElectric Slide-- YMCA-- Chicken Dance-- Hokey Pokey-- Cha-Cha Slide It seems like every couple I plan a reception with does have a strong yes/no opinion on these songs beingplayed at their reception... It is YOUR choice if I play them, or not, even if they are requested. :-)
All other music.Let's face it.. there are TONS of different types of music... and although I am very confident at what I do,I greatly value your musical input. The more songs you TELL me to play.. That you know your family and friends would wantto hear, and more importantly want to DANCE to.. the more successful your reception will be! The more ideas for songs, or even general genres, you provide as a guide, the more I can customize the receptionto be EXACTLY what you want it to be.
When we talk again, we will go over these selections, and plan the order/basic time outline for all of these events. The more we can nail down a plan, the fewer surprises you will have, and the more you can just relax and enjoy the big day when it comes... with no surprises!
Ceremony Officiant Info IF, I am performing the Ceremony, and Ceremony Music: First, and most importantly, EVERY Ceremony I write is an individual script tailored to YOUR personalities.I will write a general script, send it to you, and allow you to approve and edit whatever you want. At The Ceremony:I start the Music 30 minutes prior to actual Ceremony time, as the guests are arriving. We can talk about ANY “specific” songs you want, or you can leave it all to me.
